Recommended computers

You can use nearly any Windows or Mac desktop or laptop computer that you like! Even more affordable, entry-level computers will work well for most coding projects. However, if your child gets very into game development and and wants to work on more advanced projects, you may want a computer with some more powerful hardware. Here are a few recommendations for some gaming computers that offer great performance for a good value:

Entry-level computers

This entry-level computer is a good option if you want to get something more budget-friendly to test the waters with your child. They will be able to run most of the programs we use, but may be a bit slower than some of the other options. They won’t be a great option to use for most video games since they will be too slow to run modern graphics, but they can be used for more simple video games like Minecraft and Roblox.

  1. HP 15.6 inch laptop

    1. Price - $299

Mid-range Gaming computers

Gaming computers are a great option if your kid wants to use their computer to code and to play video games. At a mid-range, you can get a good balance between performance and price.

  1. Gaming Laptops

    1. HP Victus Intel Core i5-series 16GB RAM 512GB SSD Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050
    2. Price - $599 (great deal for a gaming laptop!)

Macbook

Macbooks can be a bit pricier, but they are very good computers that are great for programming. I personally use Macbooks for all of my day-to-day work. They can run most of the programs and games that we will be using in class, but may not be a good option if your child wants to use their computer to play other video games. Macs generally aren’t as good for playing video games as Windows PC’s, but they can be used to play Minecraft and Roblox.
